The Best Things to Do in San Jose

San Jose is a massive city in the San Francisco Bay Area with an incredibly diverse amount of attractions located within the city or a short drive away. The booming tech industry brings a large amount of people to the area for business travel, so combined with locals and tourists on vacation, it is an incredibly popular place to visit. There’s certainly no lack of things do do and places to see as the city is filled with delicious restaurants, packed bars, high-end nightclubs, golf courses, wineries, museums shopping and more. In fact, there is actually so much to do within the city or in the surrounding areas that you may need a little help deciding what to do. Here are a few highlights for things to do in San Jose.

Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House has been a huge attraction for a long time, but recently has become even more popular due to the Major Motion Picture “Winchester” which came out in 2018. The film is a fictional thriller/horror movie, but there is a rich history involved with the famous house located in San Jose, California. The massive mansion was once the home of the eccentric Sarah Lockwood Pardee Winchester, who was the heiress to the Winchester fortune after her husband, William Wirt Winchester died. After she lost her husband and her daughter while living in Connecticut, she made the trek to San Jose and bought a modest 8 room farmhouse, but then things went a little nuts. she began a lifelong renovation of the house, adding wings and floors in an almost obsessive manner until the day she died. When all was said and done the house had grown to over 24,000 sq. feet with 160 rooms, 6 kitchens, 47 staircases, 10,000 windows and more. It is estimated that she spent over $5 Million, which with inflation would be the equivalent of $71 Million today. Since opening to the public in 1923, just after Sarah’s death, the home has seen over 12 million visitors. If you are in San Jose, the Winchester Mystery House is a must see and also the perfect opportunity to rent a party bus for the occasion.
